What's happening at We Know Words?
As copywriters with heaps of attitude and loads of brains, we’re often up to something.
Here's what we've been up to lately (but for new work, see our Recent Projects):
Coming in March, 2008 Sharon's on email marketing panel Sharon will be the copywriter on a panel of experts in San Francisco on March 19th as the Northern California chapter of the DMA presents Extreme Email Makeover. See details at http://www.dmanc.org/calendar.html and if you're in the Bay Area, come to the event!
Coming in February, 2008 We teach about marketing online with press releases On February 21st, Sharon and Marina present "Using press releases to promote your business on the Internet." If the term "press release" makes you think of a boring piece of paper mailed to journalists who don't really care, come learn about the new world of press releases and how to use them to market your business on the Internet. For those small business owners and marketers who can't make the event, Marina has written a useful article with nine tips for marketing your business on the Internet using online press releases. Get the details at http://kentchamber.com/calOfEvents/default.asp?id=20301&page=displayEvent.
January, 2008 Our favorite testimonial So this isn't really news, but it's so sweet and so much fun, it's worth it to us to announce it! This just in from the Director of First Impressions at one of our clients: "The company I work for has been using Sharon Baerny and her crew for quite a while. I first laid eyes on her as a speaker at one of our Sales & Marketing Roundtables. Man, is she FUUNNNEEEE!!!! But she has some great marketing tips! I signed up for her newsletter. Her style is breezy and concise. And I know she's a witch, because she spreads magic everywhere she goes! You can also tell by the long, red hair thrown over her shoulder!
Anyhow, she and her marketing wizards do a GREAT job!" Thanks, Sam!
December, 2007 Sharon joins new WSA Programs Committee The WSA formed a new all-volunteer Programs Committee to take over production and management of the organization's dinner events. Sharon was asked to be on the Leadership Committee heading up the initiative, an invitation she gladly accepted, because she loves the WSA! Smart people, smart topics, smart networking.
October, 2007 Small business marketing tips ebook now available
Back in 2002, Sharon started writing weekly marketing tips for small business owners who couldn't afford to hire a copywriter, but who wanted to improve their marketing. Over the course of a few years, those weekly marketing tips evolved into the "Marketing in a Minute" ebook, now a beautiful pdf available to anyone who requests it. If you're a small business owner, or someone responsible for marketing a small business, this marketing tips ebook is for you. Read more about the ebook or see the press release.
September, 2007 Marina joins the blogging bunch Seeing that Sharon blogged and lived to tell about it, Marina joined the blogging world in September. Titled Marina on Marketing, it's Marina's outlet for applying key marketing principles to everyday life... and how often companies fall short when doing so. See Marina’s blog
September, 2007 Sharon joins advisory board for University of Washington Marketing Certificate Program
The University of Washington Educational Outreach program reached out to Sharon as a possible advisory board member and of course she said "yes." She'll not only play a role in the rethinking of the current marketing certificate program; she'll also be involved in the development of a new interactive marketing certificate program if that project goes forward.

August, 2007 Now we know blogs too
After two years of thinking about it, Sharon morphed her method of pontificating on marketing communications and copywriting from a monthly marketing enewsletter to a weekly marketing blog. Sharon's blog is at www.weknowblogs.com/blog.php/sharons-marketing-missive. It has been an interesting progression, from Sharon's Marketing Minute—weekly marketing tips for small business owners, now a marketing tips ebook—to Sharon’s Marketing Monthly (marketing newsletter) to Sharon's Marketing Missive (marketing blog). Check it out and comment. That's what it's there for! And you have to admit, it's pretty cool that we were able to buy www.weknowblogs.com for our blog site.
June, 2007 Sharon ends term as president of the Seattle Direct Marketing Association
In June, Sharon gratefully handed over the presidency to Cynthia Cruver of GC Direct as the new SDMA president, but Sharon remains on the SDMA board as past president and co-chair of the Market to the Max planning committee. It was a busy year, one of setting up processes and procedures, of defining the SDMA's role and laying the groundwork for growth. See what the SDMA is up to this year
April, 2007 Sharon presents at Adhost Seminar on writing for the Web
In April, Sharon co-presented with Adhost's Web development team as the team explained Adhost CMS. In the second half of the seminar, Sharon covered "Writing for the Web."
